Alice in Wonderland Topped Avatar Opening Weekend Record

“Alice in Wonderland”, Tim Burton’s recent 3D movie has surpassed the reigning “Avatar” opening weekend record garnering a total $ 116.3 million on it’s first week performance. Avatar however has only garnered a total of $ 77 million before. Other than that, according to news, Alice in Wonderland also got the biggest opening weekend for a non-sequel and the best opening weekend for first quarter release.
I think the primary key of getting higher appreciation from the moviegoers is to see Johnny Depp portrayed the role of “Mad Hatter”.
Among the other movies on the top records are:
“Brooklyn’s Finest” with $ 13.5 million
“Shutter Island” with $ 13.3 million
I wonder if Alice in Wonderland 3D can also top the recent World record on total earnings set by “Avatar”?
